The BAC-167 Strikemaster is essentially an armed version of the Provost T.Mk5; the Strikemaster was modified with an upgraded engine, wing hard-points, a strengthened airframe, new communications and navigation gear, upgraded ejection seats, revised fuel system, and shortened landing gear.
First flown in 1967, the aircraft was marketed by the British Aircraft Company (BAC) as a light attack or counter-insurgency (COIN) aircraft, but most large scale purchasers were Air Forces wanting an advance trainer although the Fuerza Aerea Ecuatoriana (FAE) much like Oman and Yemen have used their aircraft in combat.
Having maintained trade links with Great Britain, the (FAE) ordered sixteen BAC 167 "Strikemasters" Mk.89A's between 1972 and 1976 with allocated (FAE) serial numbers 311-318, 337-340, and 347-350 of which have been in operation with the 23rd Combat Air Wing, 2313 Squadron.
